Indications
In cattle, sheep and goats: treatment of ruminal atony and intestinal atony. In horses: treatment of intestinal atony and bladder atony.
Contraindications
Do not use in cases of mechanical gastrointestinal or urinary obstruction, peritonitis, or uncertain intestinal wall viability. Do not use in animals hypersensitive to neostigmine or any excipient. In horses, do not use in disorders of the proximal digestive tract. Do not use during pregnancy or lactation.
Precautions
Monitor the animal for cholinergic effects because adverse effects are dose-dependent. Use with caution in bronchial asthma, cardiac arrhythmia because of the risk of bradycardia, and gastroduodenal ulcer because of increased gastric secretions. Do not administer concurrently with other cholinesterase inhibitors or depolarising neuromuscular blocking agents such as succinylcholine.
Side Effects
Dose-dependent adverse effects associated with excessive cholinergic stimulation; adverse effects are rare at therapeutic doses.
