Scopolamine

Treatment of acute spasms of the gastrointestinal tract (colic) and urinary system in horses, cattle, sheep and pigs; also used to facilitate clinical procedures requiring reduced gastrointestinal peristalsis or reduced urinary-system contractions.

Do not use in cases of paralytic ileus, mechanical obstruction or cardiac disorders. Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients. Do not use in horses with glaucoma or in horses younger than 6 weeks.

Horses should be closely monitored after treatment. Treatment is essentially symptomatic and appropriate management of the underlying cause is required. During pregnancy and lactation, use only after a benefit-risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian. Intravenous and intramuscular administration should be slow.

Horses: very rare tachycardia; frequency undetermined colic due to inhibition of motility. Cattle, sheep and pigs: very rare tachycardia.
