Dosages

Dog

  • IV: 1.0 to 5.0 mg/kg (0.05 to 0.25 mL/kg) depending on depth of anesthesia; Neonates: 1 to 5 drops (0.2 to 0.5 mL) sublingually or SC/IV (Intravenous (IV) or Sublingual (neonates)) — May repeat in 15 to 20 minutes if necessary

Cat

  • IV: 1.0 to 5.0 mg/kg (0.05 to 0.25 mL/kg); Neonates: 1 to 2 drops (0.1 to 0.2 mL) sublingually (Intravenous (IV) or Sublingual (neonates)) — Single dose; repeat in 15 to 20 minutes if needed

Horse

  • IV: 0.5 mg/kg (0.25 mL/kg) for chloral hydrate/anesthetic depression; Neonatal foals: 0.02 to 0.05 mL/kg IV (Intravenous (IV)) — Single injection

Indications
  • Stimulate respiration during and after general anesthesia in dogs, cats, and horses.
  • Hasten recovery and reduce post-anesthetic depression.
  • Initiate and stimulate respiration in neonatal puppies, kittens, and foals following dystocia or cesarean section.
Contraindications
  • Do not use in animals with convulsive disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, or severe mechanical respiratory obstruction.
Precautions
  • Ensure patent airway before injection. Overdose may cause hyperventilation, tachycardia, muscle tremors, or convulsions.
Side Effects
  • Hypertension, arrhythmias, muscle twitching, or hyperactive reflexes at high doses.
