Excede for Horses (ceftiofur crystalline free acid) Sterile Suspension is an advanced, sustained-release third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing 200 mg ceftiofur equivalents per mL. Two injections administered 4 days apart provide a full 10-day therapeutic course of ceftiofur for equine lower respiratory tract infections.

Indications

Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections in horses caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus.
Contraindications

Do not use in horses with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactams.

Do not administer intravenously.
Precautions

Administration of antimicrobials to horses under stress may result in acute antibiotic-associated diarrhea/colitis; monitor closely.
Side Effects

Injection site swelling, stiffness, and local soreness are commonly reported.
